Cambridge St Sculpture—Once Were Strangers
This elegant seat emerges from cyanotype prints of local plants and waterways. Its graceful lines follow Lake Galup's outline, the curl of ocean waves, and the ancient bidi (pathways) trodden for thousands of years.
At its heart, two figures filled with drifting seaweed patterns stand in silent conversation—a quiet tribute to the wordless ties that bind a community: a nod, a smile, the energy passed between generations.
Fire and water blend here: warm reds typify Noongar campfires and ceremonies, while cool blues honour healing springs, the ocean, and life's endless flow. The weathered metal backrest whispers of endurance, layered histories, and the grace found in transformation, while long-neck turtles, balga fronds, reeds, and seaweed shapes play with light and shadow.
This artwork is a seat for listening, healing, and the quiet cultivation of community.
